On Saturday, February 24, 2018, Critical Thinking students from Knob Noster School District competed with teams from Jefferson City, Wright City, Weston, Holts Summit, and Clinton in the Missouri North Central Regional Destination Imagination Tournament.

Destination Imagination prepares students to be the innovators of the future by combining science, technology, engineering, fine arts, and service learning with creativity, teamwork and problem-solving. Academic tournaments take place around the state where teams have the opportunity to present their solutions to trained appraisers. Students have fun and gain confidence in their ability to solve any challenge. In working to solve the Challenges, teams learn 21st-century skills (creativity, critical thinking, collaboration, communication, citizenship and courage), step outside of their comfort zones to pursue ideas and make presentations, and build on their unique strengths.

Teams chose a central challenge to compete in at the tournament.  A central challenge is based in one of the following areas: Technical, Scientific, Fine Arts, Improvisational, Engineering, or Service Learning. All teams compete in an Instant Challenge which is a quick problem solving activity that requires the team to work collaboratively, creatively, and to engage in critical problem solving.

The Knob Noster Elementary team consisting of Caitlyn Briscoe, Shyann Carter, Kolby Cunningham, Ella Goodrich, Caty Ourth, and Evan Perez participated in the Fine Arts Challenge.  This group took second place.

Knob Noster Elementary (KNE)  and Whiteman Elementary (WE) students joined together to participate in the Engineering Challenge.  Members of that team are from WE: Allyson Sandfort and Christian Masterson and from KNE: Shyann Grove, Samuel Rosine, Isabelle Spencer, and  Ryan Trudell. This team took second place and also took Highest Instant Challenge.

Knob Noster fifth grade students participated in the Engineering Challenge. Members of that team were Ryland Olson, Mason Grosz, Victor Candelaria-Beard, Miguel Lara, Noah Schoepke, and Drew Fundaburg, and they took first place.

Teams who placed in the top three in central challenge will present their challenge solutions at the state tournament in Joplin, Missouri on April 7, 2018.
